The
Importance of Charitable Giving . . .
 Your
Contribution Will Help Us Help You
Huntington Hospital is a not-for-profit
501(c)(3) tax-exempt institution. Unlike for-profit
corporations, any excess of revenues over expenses
is used by the hospital to upgrade its equipment
and facilities. Despite diligent and skilled
management, HMO's and managed care reimbursements
in general have been so low that year-end operating
margins are very slim. In order to continue to
ensure that we keep abreast of medical technology
and the latest equipment, we fund raise.
Many Giving Options . . .
Each Helpful . . . Each Appreciated
Gifts of cash, appreciated assets,
real estate, bequests, or gifts-in-kind (goods
or services) help enhance patient care areas
such as the Don Monti Cancer Center, Heart Center,
Women's Health Center, the Intensive Care Unit,
the Emergency Department, the Dolan Family Health
Center, and many others.
The Donor Benefits of Charitable
Giving
Reduce
Your Taxes
If you itemize your deductions, charitable
gifts at year-end can result in tax savings
next spring. Your individual tax rate determines
how much you will save, but generally, the
higher your rate, the more you save from
each dollar donated. Check with your tax
advisor to maximize your benefit.
Gifts
of Assets Reduce the Cost of Giving
In addition to the savings available through
a charitable tax deduction, gifts of appreciated
assets (stocks, bonds, mutual funds) that
you have owned for at least one year affords
you the opportunity to bypass capital gains
taxes that would normally be due the IRS
if you sold the assets.
Special rules apply to certain types of
non-cash gifts such as real estate and tangible
personal property (art, jewelry, etc.). Check
with your tax advisor for details.
Plan
Now
Give Later
Remember the hospital in your Will. It's
easy, convenient, and constitutes a meaningful
legacy. A Will ensures that your wishes are
carried out and prevents the state from making
decisions that may be contrary to your wants
and needs. Consult your attorney for assistance.
Double
Your Gift
A company that has a matching gifts program
may employ you or your spouse. Check with
the company's Human Resources Office for
the appropriate forms.

You Decide How Your Gift
Will Be Used
There are two types of gifts,
the restricted gift and the unrestricted
gift. The unrestricted gift allows the hospital
to decide which patient care area would most
benefit from your generosity. The restricted
gift is where the donor directs their contribution
to benefit a specific patient care area,
the purchase of a piece of equipment, building
project, or endowment.
Recognition
Hospital donors are valued and
appreciated. There are various recognition
vehicles depending on the size of your gift
and its area of designation.

All gifts (with the permission
of the donor) of $100 or more are recognized
in the hospital's Annual Report published each
April and distributed to over 100,000 households
in Huntington and its surrounding communities.
Gifts of $5,000 or more are recognized with
the donor's name engraved on a plate and affixed
to the Major Donor Wall located on the main
floor of the hospital. Gifts are recognized
cumulatively, meaning that all donors' giving
is tracked annually. When the total giving
reaches $5,000, they will be recognized on
the Major Donor Wall. Some gifts have multiple
recognitions.
Naming Opportunities
Rooms, units, wings, and buildings
may be named. Naming opportunities begin with
donations of $10,000.
The Annual Appeal
In November and December of each
year, the hospital conducts its direct mail
Annual Appeal. The community at large is asked
to support the hospital with either a general
or designated gift.
